Some fantastic photos on the GCKW Birding Forum encouraged me to take a morning drive down to Elora to watch the nest building herons. It’s comical to see these large, gangly birds jostle awkwardly for position in the treetops, raising their crests and clacking their bills when a neighbouring heron lands too close. The nests, all in varying stages of completion, were rigorously defended from the other building pairs (who would gladly have borrowed a little nesting material for themselves).
