A family of Piping Plover have been causing quite a stir at Sauble Beach after an absence of 35 years. An army of volunteers, birders and a game warden were keeping a close, protective eye on the breeding pair and their three week-old chicks when I arrived. Warning signs and yellow tape strewn across the beach marked the caged site where the birds had been nesting. Curious observers were kept at a careful distance, and a scope had been set up for onlookers to have a peek. A nice lifer to finish off my weekend.
