Finally pinned down my Dickcissel! I found this male singing at the exact same location I searched for him (unsuccessfully) last year. Dickcissel reports are coming in from all over the Bruce this summer.
A rather tame female Mallard stopped by the cottage often with her brood of six to beg for handouts. Once the bread was gone they climbed up onto the stony beach beside me for a nap.
Returning home after the weekend, I made a short trip to Burlington to visit a tern colony offshore of LaSalle Park. No chicks that I could see, but lots of brooding birds panting heavily in the heat.
